Encrypted message online: how to share password-protected text
An encrypted message is useful when sensitive text should not be placed directly in email, a messenger or a public form. In Notepad Infinitoline, password-protected text is encrypted in the browser before upload.

When an encrypted message is useful
This format works well for temporary instructions, credentials delivered separately, private notes and other text that should not remain exposed in an ordinary conversation. The goal is to reduce exposure during transport and storage.
For routine passwordless content, quick links are also available. In that mode the server protects stored content, but it is not end-to-end encryption. When the password must remain outside the server, choose protected text.
How protection works
For protected text, the browser uses the password to derive the key and encrypts content with AES-256-GCM before upload. The server receives ciphertext and technical data needed to operate the link without needing to store the text password.
AES-GCM combines confidentiality and authentication. A short or predictable password is still a weakness; strong encryption does not turn a weak password into a strong one.
Expiration and sharing
An expiration time and, when used, a read limit reduce how long the link remains useful. For more sensitive content, send the link through one channel and the password through another. Delete the content early when there is no longer a reason to keep it available.

- Use a long, unique password.
- Send the link and password through separate channels when possible.
- Choose an expiration that matches the real need.
- Do not reuse one link for unrelated sensitive topics.
- Delete content when it no longer needs to remain available.

Does the server receive the password for protected text?
The protected flow is designed to encrypt and decrypt in the browser, so the password used for that content does not need to be stored by the server.
Is a passwordless quick link the same thing?
No. Quick links use server-side protection. Use protected mode when you need browser-origin encryption with a local password.
